Lux Thinking Aloud I Have Found The One Whom My Soul Loves - My Wedding Day 6:38 PM I have found the one whom my soul loves. - Song of Solomon 3:4 It seems only yesterday when I was writing about why I was single.People I know and even I myself was a little surprised as to how fate made an unexpected turn.Today, I'm sharing the day God fulfilled His promise to me...The day I have found the one whom my soul loves...my wedding day!I Have Found the One Whom My Soul Loves The WaitingEven when I had unsuccessful past relationships, my faith in love was never tarnished. I knew it was going to be a long journey so I decided to enjoy it. I kept working on myself and I waited---sometimes in faith, sometimes in fear. There were days when I was blissfully reveling in my unattached and uncomplicated single life...And there were nights when my heart would long for a partner. I already had plans of living alone yet I felt a prodding in a different direction. Prayers and Discernment Interestingly, I met my husband when I was resolved that the single life was for me. It was when I fully embraced the thought of staying single forever when God was like, "Wait! I've got a better plan." Every night I would ask God if this man I met is the one because otherwise, I don't want to waste my time. It's funny that I used to ask for specific things I want for my future spouse, and when I met someone who checked all the boxes, I was in doubt. There are a lot of prayers from me and my friends involved. It's going to be a major life change so I need all the spiritual guidance I could get.My husband on the other hand had been praying for years for God to finally give him his wife before he turns a certain age.Single friends, remember these two important things while you wait:Write down your non-negotiables for a partner. Be as specific as you can be. Pray. A lot. Our Wedding Day It may seem rushed, but there were a lot of things involved from that fateful day we met to the day we exchanged I do's. It wasn't a perfect wedding, but it was beautiful. The planning and preparations brought me to a whole new level of stress---which unfortunately showed on my skin even on our wedding day. My husband's first words to me when we met at the altar were "You look beautiful, honey." 😊 So I guess it didn't matter how my complexion was. Not all things would go according to your plans. But I've realized that at the end of the day, it's not about that perfect Instagrammable wedding picture. It's not about how much the flowers cost or how gorgeous your wedding dress is (I'm blessed that mine was 😝 and it's unplanned how I found it). Your wedding is a celebration of your union with the person God gave you as a partner. It's about you starting your life with your best friend. It's the day you share your promise to the world. And that's all that really matters. Everything else is supplemental. Here's our wedding video: Dear readers, thank you for journeying with me from when I was single until now. I will still be blogging about being single because I love that stage of my life and I learned a lot from it. My hope is to continue to encourage everyone regardless of their relationship status. And my prayer is that if you haven't yet, may you also find the one whom your soul would love.
Books Small-Town Romance Novels To Binge Read: Miles Family Series 5:21 PM Small-Town Romance Novels To Binge Read: Miles Family Series It's Romance Awareness Month (yes, it's a thing!). So allow this humble romance novel addict reader (me!) to recommend her favorite small-town romance novels to binge-read. First on the list: The Miles Family by Claire Kingsley.1. Broken Miles (Miles Family Book 1)Tropes: Second Chance RomanceForced ProximityHighschool SweetheartsSummary: Broken Miles is focused on Roland, the eldest of the Miles brothers. He's a city slicker thriving in his career with a sophisticated condo and a fat paycheck. But one call from home changes everything. His family's cherished winery is in peril, and it's up to him to save it. This wasn't just a chance to rescue the family business; it was an opportunity to mend the ties he had been neglecting, which had frayed in his desperate attempt to escape a painful past and a heartbreak that still haunts him.But he finds the situation more tangled than a twisted vine when he gets there. The mess his father left behind is nothing compared to the events coordinator in his family's vineyard: Zoe Sutton. His ex. The no-nonsense woman who once shared his dreams but one day walked out, leaving behind his shattered heart.Zoe's family to his family. And they can be professional. Friendly even.Or so they thought.Working together in the family vineyard, old passions begin to stir. Can they navigate through the broken pieces of their past to find love again? Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🌶🌶🌶🌶I love this heartfelt journey of rediscovery, forgiveness, and love that could blossom once more. With her unstoppable spirit and fierce tenacity, Zoe became my instant favorite. And Roland? His relentless work ethic and deep loyalty to his family are admirable - though he was initially reluctant. Yeah, I like it when a grumpy and emotionless exterior slowly unravels. It's like watching chocolate melt in the fire. But what truly stole my heart was the undying ember of passion between Zoe and Roland. Despite a divorce that could have been the end, their connection sizzled and sparkled, refusing to be extinguished. They fell in love at 17, but their story never turned into mere youthful infatuation (it was just mentioned in the book, but the focus is the present Zoe and Roland). They were careless and had an epic time, but they also faced hurdles more serious than you'd expect from teenagers. And even more so when they finally married and moved to the city. And you know what their story reminds me? Communication. Is. Crucial! Simple talk and heartfelt conversations could rebuild bridges. 2. Forbidden Miles (Miles Family Book 2)Tropes:Childhood CrushOff-LimitsBrother's Best FriendSummary:Get ready for a fun, chaotic ride with the second installment of this captivating series by Claire Kingsley - Forbidden Miles! This time, the spotlight shines on Brynn, the youngest and only daughter of the Miles family, and Chase, the childhood best friend of Cooper Miles.Oh, Cooper and Chase! What partners in crime they've been, living up their bachelor life and earning reputations as town playboys. Chase knows the rules: Cooper's sister, Brynn, is strictly off-limits. But rules were made to be broken, weren't they?Watching Brynn bloom into a stunning woman stirs something in Chase's heart. Something more than discomfort when he sees her with another man. A forbidden feeling that he knows he shouldn't harbor, lest Cooper murder him.Meanwhile, Brynn's not just the little sister anymore. Her childhood crush on Chase has blossomed deeper, more intense, and utterly undeniable. Especially after that kiss - that one forbidden, electrifying kiss. The brothers disapprove. The winery's future hangs in the balance. And yet, Brynn and Chase are drawn to each other against all odds and reason. Will love triumph over family loyalty and unwritten rules? Can they weather the storm and find their happily ever after?Rating:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🌶🌶🌶🌶Review:I adore the unfolding saga of the Miles family, and this book is no exception.Brynn, the baby sister with four overprotective brothers, isn't the little girl they remember. She's grown into a formidable, independent force who knows her heart and won't let anything stand in her way, not even the bond between her brothers and Chase.Speaking of Chase, what an in-between plays he's stuck in. Torn between his loyalty to Cooper and his growing, undeniable love for Brynn. But with Brynn's determination (or stubbornness), he fights for love, all while maintaining his loyalty to the Miles. And Cooper! Though he tries to play the tough guy, his protectiveness for his sister is downright endearing. My favorite part was when Cooper finally saw the truth in Chase's intentions with Brynn. It was both hilarious and emotional, like only Cooper can deliver. This story is about the realization that sometimes, love means letting go and trusting those we hold dear. Whether it's Brynn's courageous pursuit of her heart or Chase's delicate balance between friendship and love, this book has layers that will make you believe that love conquers all.3. Reckless Miles (Miles Family Book 3)Tropes: One-Night Stand RomanceSummary:Reckless Miles by Claire Kingsley is a story that will steal your heart and leave you with a big, goofy smile!Cooper Miles loves working in the field of their vineyard. He's adorable in the way he talks to the plants. He also knows how to party. But something shifted when he met Amelia Hale. The woman clad in a wedding dress at a bar. Her life has taken a completely unexpected detour. A casual kiss. An invitation back to her hotel. Nothing that this playboy couldn't serve. It was reckless. But not the wedding dress or Amelia's innocent inexperience unnerves him. No, it's how she makes him feel — these overwhelming, uncharted emotions both bewilder and enchant him.Rating:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🌶🌶🌶🌶Review:At first glance, you might peg Cooper Miles as the perpetual bachelor, reveling in the joys and freedom that lifestyle provides. But trust me, there's so much more to uncover!Cooper's wit and childlike charm will catch you off guard and leave you smiling. He might seem like the least serious of the brothers, but don't let that fool you. The lengths he's willing to go to protect his family are touching and awe-inspiring.I love how Cooper has a nickname for everyone and speaks his own language. And when he meets Amelia, sparks fly, and it's like meeting his match made in heaven. Despite their differences in the dating game, they're two peas in a pod, each reflecting the other's personality in the most enchanting way.Their romance is a whirlwind adventure of emotions, especially for Cooper, who's unaccustomed to the twists and turns of true love. Being a part of their journey is like catching a refreshing breeze on a warm day, filled with surprises and joys that make you feel alive. So grab a cozy blanket, settle down with your favorite tea, and dive into this irresistible tale. Whether you're a hopeless romantic or just looking for a story with depth, warmth, and pure fun, this one's a winner. Cooper and Amelia's love story celebrates what it means to find your other half. You'll close the book with a contented sigh, feeling like you've gained new friends. 4. Hidden Miles (Miles Family Book 4)Tropes: War heroFriends to LoversHidden IdentitySummary:Leo Miles is a man who's returned home from war bearing physical and emotional scars. These last five years, he's secluded himself on his family's property, shying away from the world due to his altered appearance. Life has been challenging, and joy has been scarce.Except for her voice.Through the virtual gaming realm, Leo has found solace in the company of an anonymous friend. They share laughter, thoughts, and countless game sessions without knowing each other's true identity. She becomes Leo's bright spot, a beacon of comfort in his otherwise confined existence. The familiar voice is none other than Hannah Tate, and she's more real, wonderful, and in danger than he ever imagined.Hannah, the fearless gamer girl, is determined to penetrate Leo's fortress of isolation. She's everything he's ever dreamt of but never dared to pursue. His internal battle and family's safety concerns keep him from being her knight in shining armor.Yet, something special is stirring between Leo and Hannah. A connection that goes beyond mere friendship, one that challenges and changes them both.Hidden Miles is a tender tale of healing, courage, and unexpected love. It's about a wounded man who thinks he's lost everything and a determined woman who looks beyond what the eyes can see and believes in second chances. With a family that stands as a steadfast anchor, this story will warm your heart, make you believe in the power of connection, and remind you that sometimes, the heroes we need are the ones we least expect.Rating:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶Review:This is by far my favorite (and that's saying something because they're all good!). I think because I love Leo and his quiet but don't-eff-with-me-or-my-family demeanor. I love how he overcame his PTSD to save the woman he loves. The Miles Family is like a warm hug on a cold day. They understand his struggle, back him up no matter what, and love him unconditionally. Even when Leo sees himself as "damaged," they remind him of his worth. Then there's Hannah, the girl who sees right through Leo's scars to the remarkable person he truly is. She's a catalyst for change in Leo's life, helping him rediscover himself and who he can be. It was also noteworthy how she finally found the courage to free herself from a toxic relationship.I love how Leo and Hannah find comfort and solace in each other. They're teammates, helping each other grow and heal. This is a reminder that love is a transformative force. It's about resilience and putting the other person's needs over yours and finding satisfaction in doing it.The right kind of family is like a safety net, ready to catch you whenever you fall. So, if you're in the mood for a story that feels real, warm, bit magical in the most down-to-earth way, give this one a go. You might love it as much as I do. Note: There is a fifth Miles novella called Gaining Miles. It's the story of their mom and their loyal family friend and employee who's more like a father to them than their own biological dad. I didn't read it for a reason, but you can check it out here. This post contains affiliate links, so we'd get a commission if you purchase through the links at no additional cost. Books ARC Book Review: It Should Have Been Us by Anna B. Doe 7:04 PM Love is always enough. But that doesn’t mean it’s easy. Or that it doesn’t require any effort. -It Should Have Been Us by Anna B. DoeSome people claim they don’t regret anything in life. Are you one of them? I’m definitely not. There are things I wish I’d have done differently. I just finished reading another advanced reader copy from a newly discovered author, and it made me think about my could have, should have, would have. Here’s my ARC review for It Should Have Been Us by Anna B. Doe.Book SummaryHe is the best man to her maid of honor. He’s also the boy who broke her heart three years ago. They were besties since diapers and high school sweethearts before they became exes.Rebecca and Miguel have again crossed paths for their best friends’ wedding. She has to confront the boy who once destroyed her heart. And as their paths intertwine, the secrets she has kept hidden threaten to resurface, leaving her with no escape from the past she thought she had left behind.“It was like an invisible string was pulling me toward it.” “We were connected in a way I could never honestly explain.”The CharactersRebecca Allison ‘Becky’ WilliamsA lovable, loyal, supportive friendDoting daughter and sisterTalented baker and owner of The Reading Nook (cafe + reading area)Miguel’s “Red”“There was always something about Rebecca that drew my attention from the time we were kids. It was her natural beauty and the determined way she walked through the world.Rebecca was my best friend. More than that, she was my person. DoeIt was nice to return home to Bluebonnet, where I first met Becky and Miguel in the book Kiss Me First (Emmet and Kate). It Should Have Been Us made me laugh but also broke my heart and put me back together. This book is an excellent reminder that constantly thinking about the past and all the “what-ifs” can hold you back and stop you from finding happiness. Why I like it:Becky. I’ve adored Rebecca ever since Kiss Me First. She’s kind but feisty. She’s always there supporting Miguel and Emmet from football practices to games, rain or shine. You’ll want to have her in your corner. Unexpected bomb. Just when I thought this would be another book of funny banters and cute ex-lovers who found their way back together, Anna B. Doe dropped a bomb that gave me all. The. Feels. 😩Healing closure. I don’t like misunderstandings in books, but I like the closure they both get. Along the way, I understood why they acted the way they did. Roller coaster of emotions. I like it when the book serves different emotions. I laughed a few times. I’ve missed the verbal battle between Miguel and Becky. There is tension between them every time they’re around each other. There were tears and heartaches, not just for them but also for some people around them.Indeed, it’s the things we didn’t do that we regret the most. The worst feeling in the world is knowing you could make things right, but you let it slip away.Knowing you could have prevented it is the only thing worse than a broken heart. And I felt all that while reading what came down between this couple I’ve come to love. Will I recommend this book?If you’re into second-chance love stories with lots of heart-fluttering moments, heartwrenching pasts, steamy scenes, and hard-earned happily ever after, this is your jam.Favorite ScenesPre-wedding football game in the backyardSeeing my fave characters from Blairwood University (another sports romance series from Anna B. Travels Got Lost Inside Harry Potter's World 6:28 PM I've always been a huge fan of the boy who lived. I would stay up late and force my eyes to stay open, fighting sleepiness just so I can read one more chapter. Or one more paragraph. Or one more page. At least that's what I kept saying to convince myself to put the book down. So you can just imagine how ecstatic I was when (some parts of) Harry Potter's world came to town. The Harry Potter Exhibit started last June at the Arts Science Museum at the Marina Bay Sands. Plans to go there had been put off for 3 months, so the excitement grew and grew until finally, my dream came true--- to step into and get lost in Harry Potter's world. Even just for an hour or so. Even just a glimpse of it means the world to me. I entered into my fantasy world literally and no words can describe the joy I felt. Got Lost Inside Harry Potter's World (Click individual image to view in full size) Our ticket to Platform 9 3/4. Well, not really. But close. :) Ready to get lost in the magical world of Harry Potter I had to control myself from squealing when we finally stepped inside. The first Harry Potter movie prop that greeted us was the famous Flying Ford that Ron drove on their way to Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Harry's letter from Hogwarts one of the knights in the Wizard's Chess Ron played in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone I wish they used a real owl. But this cute stuffed animal will do. That way to the exhibit. Yehey! All 8 movie posters of the movies were at the hallway on way to the main exhibit area The last 3 best Harry Potter films At the entrance of the main exhibit room You can just imagine the will power I used to stop myself from going through this mist (which created an illusion of the curtain into which godfather Sirius Black disappeared after Bellatrix Lestrange cursed him in the movie) while waiting for the staff to let us in. That's where the main exhibit starts. Unfortunately for us, it's "for your eyes only". No cameras allowed "or else you'll be expelled from Hogwarts" says the witch who welcomed us inside. Aw. So since no cameras were allowed, I'll try to remember everything I've seen behind those mist. First, the Sorting Hat was there but they only sorted 2 persons. Then the doors opened to the dark room where they showed a few clips from the movie. Then there's another door! And my journey began. Inside Harry Potter's World 1. A replica of the Hogwarts Express. There were trunks scattered beside it too. 2. The (moving) paintings hanging on the wall. Well, there were some which are videos of the moving paintings as seen in the movie. There was even the Fat Lady in that scene where she was trying to break a wine glass with her voice. I passed through that door behind her. Just so I can experience stepping into the Gryffindor common room (kunwari. hehe). 3. The casts' clothes. Hermione's, Ron's, Harry's, Neville's, Luna's casual clothes and Hogwart's school uniform. 4. Hermione's enchanted bag she used to keep all their things when they were "on the run". 5. Harry', Hermione's and Ron's wand---with scotch tape! 6. Copy of The Quibbler that Luna was reading and the glasses she was wearing in the movie. 7. The time-turner Harry and Hermione used in the Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban to save Buckbeak and Sirius. 8. Harry and Ron's poster bed, their trunks, Ron's favorite Quidditch team's poster and everything else at their bedside. 9. Nimbus 2000 and Nimbus 2001. 10. Their school professors' uniforms 11. The board with school announcements. 12. A few things they used in their Potions including the Half-blood Prince's book. 13. Professor Trelawney's cups complete with the tea leaves she used to prophesy Harry's death. 14. Their other classmates' uniforms. 15. Neville's pruning kits. 16. The Marauder's map. 17. I pulled a Mandrake out of the pot! It was super heavy I had to use two hands. And it shrieked! I was like a kid playing, pulling out Mandrake after Mandrake from the pots at Professor Sprout's makeshift greenhouse. 18. Hagrid's Hut! And we were allowed to sit on his giant chair. Joan and I were able to sit comfortably in the chair that Hermione sat on in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. The only thing missing there was Hagrid's enormous bed. 19. 3 hoops that were like that in Quidditch. And we shoot Quaffles into them. Heavy balls they are. (Have you played shooting balls at Timezone or the like? It's somewhat like that). 20. Quidditch uniforms.Yes, including Cedric Diggory's. Ha ha. 21. A replica of the Pesky Pixies at Professor Lockhart's lesson. Even his paintings, pictures and books were there. 22. Professor Umbridge's office. Her kittens' dish paintings on the sickeningly pink walls as Harry would describe it. Her tea cups, her pink uniform she was wearing when George and Fred made a loud "bang" before leaving Hogwarts. Her magical quill, the parchment Harry wrote "I must not tell lies" on, a copy of the Daily Prophet with news about her. 23. The Statue at the cemetery where Cedric died. 24. Death Eaters' masks and robes. 25. The giant tarantula, Aragog. 26. Voldemort's robe and wand. 27. The creature they thought didn't exist but Harry and Luna could see (the name escapes me at the moment). 28. Buckbeak was there! Her eyes looked so real. 29. The executioner's axe and robe. There were pumpkins scattered too around them. 30. The school rules that Draco and his cronies hung on the walls of Hogwarts during Umbridge's "regime". 31. The Great Wall. Of course not as huge as in the book or movie but looks like it, with floating candles. The ceiling was just dark though. ^_^ 32. Some food that was served during meal time. Goodies like Chocolate Frog and Bertie Bott's every flavor beans. 33. The Triwizard Cup. 34. The Goblet of Fire. 35. The names on paper that Dumbledore got from the Goblet of Fire. 36. Dumbledore's Army list, which got me teary eyed. Just looking at their signatures as shown in the Order of the Phoenix brought lump in my throat. Mushy me. 37. The clothes they wore during the Yule Ball. Hermione's pink dress was gorgeous up close. 38. A preserved Fawkes. 39. Head of the Hungarian Horntail. 40. The Deathly Hallows; Elder wand, Invisibility cloak and the Resurrection Stone. 41. Luna and Xenophilus' clothes during Fleur and Bill's wedding. 42. Godric Gryffindor's sword. 43. Dobby and Kreacher! Well, in wax that is. 44. Colin Creevey's petrified figure. 45. Nagini's replica in wax. 46. Professor Lupin's wardrobe where the Boggart came out during his class and the giant Jack-in-the-box that one of his students feared. 47. Rita Skeeter's quill. 48. A copy of The Life and Lies Of Albus Dumbledore. 49. Goodies from Weasley's Wizard Wheezes. 50. Some of the letters that Harry didn't get from the mail in The Sorcerer's Stone. Then there were the merchandise outside the exhibit door. We're not sure if camera's not allowed there. So we just assumed it's not. He he. I felt like I stepped into a dream and never wanted to wake up. I felt so enchanted, until now. I didn't want to leave but some good things never last. My friend Joan had to ask me when we reached the end of the exhibit, "Ready?". And just like after reading the last book and watching the last film, I am not ready to leave Harry and his magical world. I may return to reality but they will always be part of me. I know not everyone will understand but I know people who do. Some may say it's only fantasy, fiction. But as Professor Dumbledore said, "Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?" Hey, did you find this post helpful or entertaining?
