Health & Wellness 10 Myths and Misconceptions About Hearing Aids 6:49 AM With hearing loss affecting millions due to rising noise pollution and health concerns, seeking solutions becomes crucial. Hearing aids can significantly improve your quality of life, yet many misconceptions prevent people from utilizing them. Let's debunk these common myths and misconceptions about hearing aids to empower you to make informed decisions for your hearing health. 1. Not everyone with hearing problems needs them. It is common for patients to treat the problem lightly and avoid wearing hearing aids until they can. However, even mild issues should be addressed seriously, as they can disturb daily life. So, you should invest in these devices as soon as your audiologists recommend them. 2. Hearing aids make the sounds too loud. Another false belief about hearing aids is that they amplify sounds to such an extent that they become too loud. With analog aids, soft d sounds and low-frequency and high-frequency sounds are amplified equally. This means that they can get a little bit of the noisier side. However, with the popularity of digital signal processing technology for these instruments, they can now be tailored according to individual needs. 3. They are bulky and uncomfortable. Years ago, hearing aids were large, making them bulky and uncomfortable. However, the devices have evolved with time and the advent of new technologies. Today, you can find ones that are larger in size and even hard to detect as they fit right into your ear canal. The comfort they offer is far better, too. 4. An invisible hearing aid is the best.As the variety of hearing aids on the market increases, so do the myths and misconceptions about them. Many people will try to convince you that invisible instruments are better than visible ones. However, the only thing that makes them better is their aesthetic value. Your doctor is the right person to decide which device is best for your hearing problem, and can recommend whether something like these oticon intent hearing aids would benefit your hearing impairment and struggles. 5. They can restore the hearing function back to normal. It's tempting to believe these devices could help you regain normal ear functions. But this is one of the many misleading myths about hearing aids. Hearing aids are no magic. They can help you hear better but do not restore hearing to normal. They can improve your quality of life and help you deal better with social situations. 6. You need to wear only one hearing aid. Another misconception about hearing aids is that you must wear only one to hear correctly. You need to hear well with both ears, just as you need to see well with both eyes. Wearing them on both ears helps you hear comfortably, even in the noisiest places. 7. Everyone can wear the same kind of hearing aids. The one-size-fits-all approach is not suitable for those who need to wear these devices. Every patient has a different problem and a varying level of hearing loss. Similarly, the shape of the ears and dexterity issues determine the kind of aids that would work in your case. So, it is better to see an audiology doctor so that he can help you choose the type that works for you. 8. Hearing aids always help the patient hear better despite the background noise.Once you have the right aids fitted, you may expect to hear loud and clear, even in loud background noise. However, their effectiveness depends on several factors, such as the noise intensity. Strategies such as adaptive directional microphones and noise cancellation algorithms can maximize the impact. 9. Hearing aids make you appear handicapped.New invisible hearing aids are now available, which can help people hear without appearing elderly or disabled. Completely-in-the-canal (CIC) aids are the best option for those who want to hear normally without being noticed. 10. Hearing aids are always expensive. Hearing aids might seem like an expensive treatment option, but you can purchase them by shopping online from trusted sites such as myearhorn.com. Always ensure that you pick the best quality and the correct battery specifications. Also, check for an optimal warranty period.7 Benefits of Hearing Aids Hearing aids are a form of treatment for various types of hearing loss, particularly sensorineural hearing loss, the most common type. Here are other ways hearing aids can benefit you:Enhanced Conversations: Hear loved ones clearly and participate fully without straining.Reduced Social Isolation: Reconnect with friends and family, boosting social well-being.Improved Mental Clarity: Reduced hearing effort can sharpen focus and memory.Increased Safety: Better awareness of sounds like alarms and traffic signals.Boosted Confidence: Engage confidently in social and professional settings.Improved Overall Health: Studies suggest hearing aids may even benefit brain health. Strategies to Support Healthy Hearing (Not a Substitute for Hearing Aids)While there's no guaranteed way to improve hearing naturally once it's lost, several strategies can support your overall hearing health:Protect your ears: Limit exposure to loud noises and use ear protection in noisy environments.Manage stress: Chronic stress can worsen hearing problems. Relaxation techniques like yoga or meditation may be beneficial.Maintain a healthy diet: Ensure a balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals essential for ear health. Consider including foods rich in B vitamins, magnesium, and potassium.Earwax removal: Follow safe practices to remove excess earwax buildup, which can temporarily impact hearing.Regular hearing checkups: Schedule regular hearing tests with an audiologist to monitor your hearing health and detect any changes early on.Remember: These strategies can't reverse hearing loss but might help prevent further deterioration and promote overall ear health. If you experience hearing difficulties, consulting a hearing healthcare professional is crucial to determine the best action, including exploring hearing aids if necessary.Hearing Aids for Age GroupsPediatric Hearing AidsInfants and ToddlersThese hearing aids are specially designed to be small, lightweight, and durable, considering the active nature of babies and toddlers. They often come with features like tamper-resistant battery doors and water resistance.Children and AdolescentsHearing aids may offer more customization options for older children and teenagers to meet their specific hearing needs. They may also include features to help with school activities, such as telecoil for better classroom hearing and connectivity with other devices like smartphones.Adult Hearing Aids TypesHearing aids come in various styles, each with its own advantages:Standard Behind-The-Ear (BTE): This common type suits many adults. It sits comfortably behind the ear and connects to a custom earpiece that fits in the ear canal.Receiver-in-Canal (RIC) or Receiver-in-the-Ear (RITE): This is similar to BTE but has a smaller and more discreet receiver inside the ear canal. It provides a more natural sound experience.In-The-Ear (ITE) or In-The-Canal (ITC): These hearing aids are custom-made to fit entirely inside the outer ear (ITE) or partially in the ear canal (ITC). They're less visible but may not be suitable for severe hearing loss.Completely in-canal (CIC) or Invisible-in-canal (IIC) hearing aids are the smallest and most discreet, fitting entirely inside the ear canal. They offer cosmetic advantages but may have limitations regarding battery life and power.Senior Hearing AidsSeniors often use the same types of hearing aids as adults. Still, they may have additional features catering to their lifestyle needs, such as enhanced telecoil options for better compatibility with hearing loop systems commonly found in theaters and churches.Specialized Hearing AidsBeyond the standard styles, consider exploring specialized options. These innovative devices cater to mild-to-severe hearing loss with unique 4D Sensor technology. This technology allows the hearing aid to understand and adapt to your specific listening environment and intentions.Bluetooth and Wireless Connectivity: Many modern hearing aids, regardless of age group, come with Bluetooth and wireless connectivity features. These allow users to stream audio directly from smartphones, TVs, and other devices, enhancing their listening experience.Rechargeable Hearing Aids: Rechargeable options are becoming increasingly popular across all age groups due to their convenience. They eliminate the need to replace disposable batteries frequently.Regardless of age, a hearing aid should be selected based on individual hearing needs, lifestyle preferences, and physical limitations. It's essential to consult an audiologist to determine the most suitable option. How much does a hearing aid cost? The cost of hearing aids can vary depending on technology level, features, and brand. Here's a general range:Average cost per hearing aid: $1,000 - $3,500Typical cost for a pair: $2,000 - $7,000Additional factors affecting the priceAdvanced features: Bluetooth connectivity, directional microphones, and tinnitus masking can increase cost.Customization: Custom earmolds may add to the price.Audiologist services: Hearing tests, programming, and follow-up appointments may incur fees. Can I afford a hearing aid? Travels 5 Simple Ways To Choose The Best Summer Accommodations For Yourself 8:19 AM If you’re living in a tropical country like me, locals and tourists alike are excited to plan their summer getaway where you are. There’s a good and bad side to that. Good because gorgeous places are near and accessible, and bad because it will be hard to find a place to stay in. There are a lot of places to choose from of course. But the question is that which one is the best? It’s challenging to find an accommodation rental that is not only cheap but also comfortable, safe and will make your stay even more amazing. So how do you choose the best summer accommodation? Here are 5 simple tips: 5 Simple Ways to Choose the Best Summer Accommodations 1. Location, Location, Location Find an accommodation that is accessible, at the center of the destination as much as possible and convenient. Ideally, it should be near bus or train stations, convenient stores or groceries, near your desired places to visit and safe. Also, try to pick a location that is tourist-friendly with a gorgeous view. Looking out the window from the moment you wake up, you should be able to say, “Ahhh, thank God for this vacation!” 2. Is It For Everybody? It’s easy to decide where to stay if you’re alone or with friends with the same wavelength. But if you’re traveling with your family for example, it’s a different story. You need to consider everybody’s needs, priority, convenience and comfort. Is it kid-friendly? Will the older ones be able to relax or do what they want? Would the teens be safe when hanging out or will there be something for everyone to enjoy? Research on these things. 3. Don’t Sacrifice Quality For Price You scrimp on your budget as much as possible because you want to get the best out of this vacation. But do not sacrifice quality for price; be it on food, transportation, souvenirs and most especially on your accommodation. It may be cheap but if you won’t be able to relax due to the noise or security issues, that is not worth your money still. Cleanliness and safety are two things that are non-negotiable when it comes to choosing a place to stay in. 4. Consider Other Options It used to be just about hotels or hostels. Now there are houses, condos, or apartments being advertised online for daily, weekly or monthly rent. Hotels may be the first choice but try to consider other options. With the help of technology, you can search for hundreds of accommodations where you want to go and compare prices easily. Don’t just limit yourself with the traditional. Just be sure that whichever you choose it is safe to stay in. Read reviews before booking or paying. 5. How Much In Total? You will see many offers and promos online about travel package. You can enjoy 2-3 days of visiting wonderful places plus transportation and accommodation prepared by agencies or groups organizing a trip. But be careful about hidden fees and charges. Make sure you are paying the right amount for the right package. Ask about additional fees. Be smart in choosing your summer accommodation. We need to go for a holiday from time to time. We need some work-life balance. Don’t let stress get to you even on vacation because of some accommodation hassles. Do your own research. Ask your friends who travelled the place before you. Ask people from travel groups online for feedback. Read reviews. Enjoy your next summer vacation! Hey, did you find this post helpful or entertaining? Please go ahead and share. Faith When People Don't Believe In Your Dreams 5:00 PM When People Don't Believe In Your Dreams When people don't believe in your dreams, remember that it is not your inadequacy that shows but theirs. When people don't believe in your dreams, look at their history. Most of the time, these are people who once dreamed the same dream but failed. They must have seen the same spark and zest in you that they had when they were dreamers. They can sense your enthusiasm and determination in reaching your dreams. They can see the dreams they once had in your eyes. But that must be why they don't believe in it anymore. Because they failed. They went crashing down hard and it was so painful that they never want to try again. Nor do they want to be near that dream again. And hearing you speak about your dreams remind them of their failure. Giphy When people don't believe in your dreams, it is their fear that they feel and they project on you. Their negativity has nothing to do with you or your dreams and everything to do with who they are and their lack of faith. It may be discouraging, painful, and frustrating especially if these people who don't support you are close to you. It would be nice to hear them cheer you on. It would be easier to face trials and conquer your mountains along the way if you know there are people who got your back. But that's not always the case. That's alright. When David was about to face Goliath, everyone including his brothers didn't believe that he could win. How could they? He's just a boy. All he had was a sling and a stone. That's all they could see. Repeat: That's all they could see. But David is more than just his sling and stone. David knew He could because He had faith. And what did his brothers know of what he can do? They weren't there when David was alone and honing his skills. They don't hear his conversations with God. They don't feel and hear God's calling for him. They only know what they can see with their naked eyes. They only understand with their limited knowledge. Plus, there is envy in their hearts. Aren't we guilty of this too? At some point, weren't we like David's brothers? We think we know someone so well. We see their limitations and what they can do and we think we can predict what their future will be based on what we see. We are fast to judge and discourage with our words. Yes, we may have good intentions. We may want them to see what we can which we think is reality. But we do we really know about them; their hearts, their faith and the depth of what they can do? What is reality? As Krishna Saagar says, "You don't see the world as it is, you see it,as you are." We didn't see the time they put in to work on their God-given talents. We didn't see their sleepless nights and hard work to get to their dreams. We haven't walked in their shoes, we don't know the battles they faced and are still facing. Who are we really to judge? Let's be like David instead. Giphy Let's perfect our skills and offer the world what we have been gifted with. No matter how small or insignificant it may be to most people, even if the world would mock us, even when those we love and hope to support us laugh at us instead and tell us to "dream on," may we never waver in our faith. God Himself planted those dreams in our hearts (Bo Sanchez). Who are they to question it? Most importantly, why would we doubt that? Hasn't God shown us He can deliver? Is the God who can part the sea, calm the storm and raise the dead not powerful enough to equip us of what we need to accomplish the mission He has entrusted in us through our dreams? When we question our capabilities, we are insulting God. When people don't believe in your dreams, remember David. You may be facing a giant with only a sling and a stone in your hands, and that might look ridiculous indeed. But that's not all you've got. You have a big God Who will not let you be defeated and Who knows what you're capable of and believes in you. When people don't believe in your dreams, don't show them what you can do, but what God can do through you. When people don't believe in your dreams, listen to God's voice in your heart. It's God's opinion that matters most. The rest is just noise. If you like this blog post about life and love, please share the article using the social media buttons below or on the left. Thanks!
