Beauty What To Expect During Your First Month With Braces 3:58 PM I just recently got my braces. Growing up, I never really had issues with my teeth alignment. But it all changed when I got my wisdom teeth. My teeth adjusted and got crowded. So I finally went to the orthodontist, and now I have metal wires on my teeth. Getting braces can be a big adjustment, but it’s essential to achieving a healthy, beautiful smile. So if you’re wondering what to expect during your first month with braces, look no further. From managing discomfort to adjusting to a new oral hygiene routine, here are helpful tips for new braces wearers. What are dental braces?Braces are an orthodontic treatment to straighten teeth, correct bite issues, and improve overall dental health. They consist of small brackets attached to each tooth and a wire running through them. The wire is then tightened over time, gradually shifting the teeth into the desired position.Braces can treat various dental problems, including overcrowding, spacing issues, crossbites, overbites, underbites, and other types of malocclusion. They can also be used to address jaw alignment and speech issues.Watch the process of putting on braces in this video. Why do you need braces?Aside from their cosmetic benefits, such as providing a straighter, more beautiful smile, braces also have significant health benefits. Crooked or misaligned teeth can be more challenging to clean properly, leading to an increased risk of tooth decay, gum disease, and other oral health problems. By straightening the teeth and correcting bite issues, braces can help to reduce the risk of these problems and promote better overall dental health.A beautiful smile can boost your confidence, which is good for mental health.Getting used to the feeling of braces.During your first month with braces, you’ll likely experience discomfort as your teeth and mouth adjust to the new hardware. You may feel soreness or sensitivity in your teeth and gums, especially after adjustments. Sticking to soft foods and avoiding hard or sticky foods that could damage your braces is essential. Over-the-counter pain relievers can also help manage any discomfort if it gets too much. With time, you’ll get used to the feeling of braces, and they’ll become a natural part of your daily routine. How much do braces hurt on a scale of 1-10?Based on personal experience and other people’s accounts, braces don’t hurt when attached, adjusted, or taken off. I can rate the pain from 0 to 1.What to Expect During Your First Month With Braces1. Adjusting your diet to accommodate bracesOne of the most significant adjustments you’ll need to make during your first month with braces is your diet.Stick to soft foods like mashed potatoes, yogurt, and soup, and cut up fruits and vegetables into small pieces. With time, you’ll learn which foods are safe and which to avoid. Remember that hard, crunchy, and sticky food can damage your braces or get stuck in the wires and brackets, making them difficult to clean. Foods to avoid when you’re wearing dental braces:Chewing gumPopcornNutsHard candySweetsSodaHow long after getting braces can you eat normal foods?I ate normal foods right after getting my braces but avoided the hard and sticky foods listed above. Check out this list of food you can and cannot eat when you have braces.2. Proper oral hygiene with braces.Proper oral hygiene is crucial when you have braces. Food particles can quickly get stuck in the wires and brackets, leading to plaque buildup and potential tooth decay. Cleaning your teeth and braces after meals is essential to maintaining good oral hygiene during braces treatment. Here are some tips on how to clean your teeth and braces after meals:Rinse your mouth with water. Rinsing your mouth with water after eating can help to wash away food particles and reduce the risk of plaque buildup.Brush your teeth at least twice daily using a soft-bristled toothbrush and natural toothpaste. You can brush your teeth on the first day of braces. Just do it gently.Use a floss threader or interdental brush to clean between your teeth and around the wires. Gently insert the brush or floss threader between the wires and teeth, and clean the areas thoroughly.Use mouthwash. Mouthwash can help to kill bacteria and freshen your breath. Swish a natural mouthwash around your mouth for 30 seconds before spitting it out.3. Managing discomfort and pain. It’s common and expected to experience discomfort during the first few days or weeks after getting braces. This is because your teeth and mouth adjust to the pressure and the attachment. You may feel soreness or tenderness in your teeth and gums, and your lips and cheeks may also become irritated from rubbing against the braces. To manage discomfort, here’s what you can do:Eat soft foods and avoid hard, crunchy, or sticky foods. Use orthodontic wax to cover any brackets or wires that poke, causing irritation and soreness. Take over-the-counter (OTC) pain relievers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen to help alleviate any pain. If your discomfort persists or becomes severe, contact your orthodontist for advice. For mouth sores from the wound caused by the sharp point of the bracket, I found Apicuria Oral Spray massively helpful. It soothes the pain instantly - and I mean in only a matter of seconds. My nephew would get mouth sores from accidentally bumping his mouth from playing, and I recommended Apicuria to my sister. It doesn’t sting and tastes sweet, so it’s kid-friendly. My nephew loves it.Adjusting to BracesHow to manage to speak with bracesSpeaking with braces can take some getting used to, but with a few simple tips, you can manage any difficulties and speak confidently during your braces treatment. Practice speaking. Practice speaking in front of a mirror or with a friend or family member to get used to the feeling of braces in your mouth. This can help you to adjust to any changes in your speech and improve your confidence.Speak slowly. Speaking slowly and enunciating your words can help you to communicate more clearly and reduce the risk of mispronouncing words or slurring your speech.Use orthodontic wax. Orthodontic wax can help to reduce any discomfort caused by your braces and prevent them from rubbing against the inside of your cheeks or lips while speaking.Drink water. Drinking water can help to keep your mouth moist and reduce any dryness or discomfort caused by your braces.Expectations for saliva production and droolingIt’s normal to experience increased saliva production and some drooling during the first few weeks of braces treatment. This is because of the braces and war. However, your mouth can stimulate your salivary glands, causing them to produce more saliva than usual. This excess saliva can make swallowing difficult and may result in drooling or spitting. However, as your mouth gets used to the braces, your saliva production should return to normal, and any drooling should subside.Keeping your teeth and braces clean can help to reduce the number of bacteria in your mouth and prevent excess saliva production.Stay hydrated. Drinking plenty of water can help to thin out your saliva and make it easier to swallow.Adjusting to sleeping with bracesSleeping with braces can be challenging, especially during the first few weeks of treatment. To alleviate your discomfort, follow these tips:Use orthodontic wax. Apply a small amount of orthodontic wax to any brackets or wires causing discomfort or irritation. This can help to prevent them from rubbing against your cheeks or lips while you sleep.Elevate your head. Sleeping with your head elevated can help reduce swelling and inflammation in your mouth and make breathing easier. You can use a wedge pillow or raise the head of your bed slightly to achieve this.Give yourself time to adjust. It may take a few nights to get used to sleeping with braces, so be patient with yourself and allow your body to adjust gradually.Take melatonin. If you’re having difficulty sleeping, take melatonin 20mins before bed and create a nighttime routine to condition your body. How often to expect follow-up appointmentsThe frequency of follow-up appointments during braces treatment can vary depending on the specific treatment plan and the patient's needs. However, most orthodontists generally schedule follow-up appointments every 4 to 8 weeks.During these appointments, your orthodontist will check your treatment progress, adjust your braces or wires, and monitor your oral health. They may also take new X-rays or impressions of your teeth to ensure that your treatment plan is on track.Attending your scheduled follow-up appointments is important, as they are essential to the braces treatment process. Missing appointments or delaying treatment adjustments can prolong your treatment time and may result in less effective results.Contact your orthodontist for guidance and support if you have concerns or questions between appointments. In summaryBraces are an effective and time-tested treatment that requires a commitment to proper oral hygiene and regular visits to an orthodontist. But, the benefits are well worth the effort. Braces can help you achieve a beautiful, healthy smile that lasts a lifetime. That’s what I keep reminding myself of when I feel a slight pull and pressure in my teeth, and know that the braces are adjusting them to align correctly. But I honestly can’t wait for them to be removed for good. This post contains affiliate links, so I’d get a commission if you purchase through my links at no additional cost. Misaligned expectations: It’s essential to be on the same page about what you want from your relationship. If one partner is looking for something more serious while the other is just looking for something casual, it can lead to disappointment. Health & Wellness Can Menopause Affect Relationships? 5:18 PM Menopause itself does not necessarily ruin a relationship or marriage. However, the physical and emotional changes during menopause can strain a relationship, mainly if existing issues have not been addressed. So, let's explore the impact of hormonal changes on romantic partnerships or marriage. Let's find the answer to the question: can menopause affect relationships? What is Menopause?Menopause is a natural biological process that denotes the end of a woman's reproductive years. It is typically diagnosed after a woman has gone 12 months without a menstrual period. Menopause is a normal part of aging, typically between 45 and 55.The body experiences significant hormonal changes during this time that can affect a woman's physical and emotional health.A woman's ovaries stop releasing eggs and produce most estrogen and progesterone hormones. These hormonal changes can cause various physical and emotional symptoms, including hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, and vaginal dryness. Women may also experience changes in their sex drive and ability to orgasm. While menopause is a standard part of aging, it can also significantly impact relationships, and sexual intimacy, including romantic partnerships, marriage, and even friendships. It affects every woman differently, so it is essential to be aware of its potential impact on relationships.By understanding the physical and emotional changes that occur during menopause, women and their partners can take steps to manage symptoms and maintain strong, healthy relationships.Menopause is a natural process, but it can be challenging for many women. It can be difficult to cope with the physical and emotional shifts that come with menopause. Be patient and understanding, even if they seem irritable or emotional.Use "I" statements: When expressing your own feelings or concerns, use "I" statements instead of "you" statements. For example, instead of saying, "You're always so moody," try saying, "I feel upset when you're moody."Be open and honest: Don't be afraid to talk about how menopause is affecting your relationship. That's how amazing women are. While some women may experience renewed freedom and energy during menopause, others may feel overwhelmed and struggle to cope with the changes.Research suggests that menopause can lead to a decline in marital satisfaction, increased risk of divorce, and other related problems. This is likely due to the physical and emotional changes that women experience during this time, such as mood swings, hot flashes, and fatigue. However, it's important to remember that menopause affects each woman differently, and not all women will experience adverse effects on their relationships. Some women may find that their relationships become stronger as they navigate this new phase of life together. If you or your partner are experiencing difficulties in your relationship during menopause, seeking support from a healthcare professional, therapist, or counselor is essential. They can help you navigate the physical and emotional changes of menopause and provide strategies for maintaining a healthy relationship.
Books The Stolen Moments Trilogy Book Review 4:16 PM I read The Stolen Moments trilogy over the weekend, and Emilia and Carter are now living in my head rent-free. The Stolen Moments book series by Catharina Maura is an unputdownable, thrilling, and heartwarming tale of enemies to lovers. I didn't know I could be a fan of the enemies-to-lovers trope, but here we are! Here's my The Stolen Moments Trilogy Book Review (while I'm still drunk in love with this love story). The Stolen Moments TrilogyBook 1: Stolen MomentsBook 2: Illicit PromisesBook 3: The Ruins of UsThe Stolen Moments Trilogy Book RatingEmotions (Made me laugh, cry, angry, delighted): ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Storytelling (Got me hooked): ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Readability (Easy to read): ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Plot (Will they, will they not? How are they going to survive the odds?): ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐The Stolen Moments Trilogy Book ReviewStolen Moments was a slightly light read as Emilia and Carter were still in high school. The Illicit Promises was set in their college days, and The Ruins of Us follows their story when they both have their careers. You can feel the intense chemistry between Emilia and Carter from the get-go. You'll love their witty banter and feel the tension between them. It was hate at first sight for these two. The crazy pranks they pull on each other become a norm for their small town, and everyone seems to be waiting for what the other comes up with. The story progresses as the tension between them grows, as does the seriousness of the mess they're stuck in.Emilia and Carter know that they can never cross that line and get together because Carter is Emilia's best friend's brother. And there's more to that story than meets the eye (you've got to read it!).You'll laugh, cry, and fight with them. And you'll continue to cheer them on until the end.Catharina Maura did an incredible job portraying Emilia and Carter's chemistry. Their banter is so witty and fun that I felt I was right there with them as they navigated their feelings for each other. I also loved how Maura explored the idea of a forbidden romance between two people who are technically family. The drama and passion between them were just so palpable and exciting. The book series is full of ups and downs that kept me hooked from start to finish. The characters are likable, and it's easy to sympathize with Carter and Emilia's struggles to stay apart and their mutual attraction that seems to keep drawing them back together. The plot was gripping, and the romance was beautiful. Oh, what these two will not do for each other. Their love will break your heart, give you hope, and bring you to the highest of highs and lowest of lows.If you're in the mood for an enemies-to-lovers story, this is definitely the series for you! Actually, even if this is not your genre, give it a try. Life Lessons How Would You Rate Yourself 6:54 AM No one can make you feel inferior without your consent. -Eleanor Roosevelt How would you rate yourself? This is a common question when applying for a job. From 1-10, how would you rate yourself as a candidate or employee?Should you be humble and give a low number? Or would you be bold enough to sell yourself; your skills, your assets, and what-have-yous?Never say 1.It means that you don't know anything, have self-esteem issues, or are faking humility. Don't say 10 because that's a perfect score, meaning there's no room for improvement. For job interviews, the safe and recommended answer to the question "How would you rate yourself?" is...An 8 or a 9. Why would you give yourself this rating? It means you know enough about the industry and your role, and you're aware of your strengths. Plus, you're humble and wise enough to know that you can still improve. It shows you're willing to grow and learn. No company would want to hire someone hard to train and a know-it-all.Go Social"How would you rate yourself?" is one of the most common questions that most people find hard to answer during an interview. Here are other common job interview questions and how to answer them. How would you rate your life? How about in life? How would you rate yourself?Where are you now vs. where you thought you'd be?Are you living your dream life, or were you delayed because of a detour? How are you doing? If you're still standing after the storm...If you're still fighting despite the failures...If you still believe everything will work out despite the messy situation you're currently in...Give yourself a pat on the back and cut yourself some slack. You won't always get what you want, but God will provide what you need.Sometimes on your way to your dreams, you'd get lost. But you'll find yourself. And you'll realize there's something better. You may not be a 10 according to society, but as long as you're doing your best, who cares?Celebrate small victories.Say this with me: I'm nowhere near perfect. I'm a work in progress. But, I'm also far from the person I used to be. You are improving. You are better than the person you were yesterday.Isn't that more important than what society thinks?Be humble enough to know you're no better than anybody and wise enough to know you're unique. We have different paths to take. Your vision and dreams may not make sense to others because they weren't given that vision.I saw this funny meme on Instagram that says, "No one else is supposed to understand your calling. It wasn't a conference call."Don't compare your beginning to someone else's middle or your middle to someone else's end. Don't compare the start of your second quarter of life to someone else's third quarter. (Jon Acuff)Quit overthinking. This book can help you:And when you rate yourself, remember to extend yourself a little kindness. You are a work in progress, but you are enough. This post contains affiliate links, so I'd get a commission if you purchase through my links at no additional cost to you. Listicle 10 Things I Wish They Taught Us In School 5:47 AM Another day passed, and I didn't get to use Algebra and Calculus once. Phew! 😂Why did I take them up again? Oh, right. It's required to get my degree. I wish they'd allowed us to choose what we want to learn. Or change the curriculum and teach us the essential things in life.Do you also wish that sometimes? I mean, do you even remember what the Pythagorean theorem is and its purpose? Here are 10 things I wish they had taught us in school.10 Things I Wish They Taught Us in School1. Filing taxes and how we can save or pay lessI remember taxes being explained in school. Briefly.I don't remember our school teaching us how to lessen the amount we need to pay. I know some wealthy people find a loophole in taxes. They're so rich because they can get around it. I wish they had taught us an easier way to file taxes. The basic ones. So we don't dread tax season and do not have to hire a bookkeeper or accountant as much as possible.Thankfully, there are YouTube channels now explaining how certain taxes should be filed.2. Mental Health Care There's a stigma about people suffering from mental health problems.I wish they taught us how to deal with anxiety, for example, not only when taking up psychology, psychiatry, or the like.Taking care of our mental health should be taught early on to avoid making it worse. And for the person suffering from it to not be scared to open up and seek help.Let young people know what they feel is expected or if it's time for them to get professional help. What can they do when they feel paralyzed by fear? How should we talk to someone who is going through depression? If mental health had been given the focus and importance it deserves, maybe more suicides and self-harm could've been avoided.More people wouldn't feel bad, lost, or guilty for feeling their feelings.People would be more sensitive and empathetic towards others.3. The truth about animal agriculture or how our food is made. This is not to force people to go vegan (though it would be nice if you would). This is to give you the option. To know what you're choosing and the consequences of your choice. When I learned about what they do to animals and how unpleasant and dreadful the situation is, I felt duped. Why didn't anyone tell me how horrible the process was for my cheeseburger to be made?Thank goodness for plant-based alternatives now.Show your kids actual footage and not staged videos of animals killed for food. Then let them decide for themselves.4. How to live more sustainably. Rich people are trying to discover how we can thrive on other planets, but...Shouldn't we spend more time and money to save what we have instead of looking for another planet to abuse and corrupt live on?There's nothing wrong with progress. I'm here for a future with flying cars and all the high-tech fun.But it shouldn't mean we should trash our planet while working our way to a better future, right?May we learn to live sustainably even when schools don't focus on teaching us how.5. Laws and rightsMore than 30,000 statutes have been enacted in the US since 1789.We studied the basics of law and those necessary in your field. For example, we have a subject on Ethics and Jurisprudence in Pharmacy. But some people are unaware of their fundamental rights, like the right to fair wages. Unfortunately, that's especially true in my country.Side note: Do you know that it's illegal to fly a kite in Victoria, Australia, and Buenos Aires, Argentina? What other crazy laws do you know of?6. How to invest or the different kinds of investmentIs there a conspiracy theory that keeps the poor poor and helps the rich become richer? Because why aren't they teaching us how to grow our money properly in school?I learned all about investing and growing your money exponentially from financial gurus. If I could learn simple investment through a one-day seminar and follow it up with YouTube videos, imagine what we could do if we discover it in all our years spent in school. I'm sure you've heard stories of Chinese families talking about money at the dining table, even with their young kids, as naturally and casually as talking about their favorite Disney characters. No wonder they're good at businesses and investments.7. How to start and grow a businessSpeaking of business, not everyone's good at it.But maybe because we just don't know what we can sell or how to sell. Our every day involves marketing. We use marketing to convince our parents to give us money. Why did you add that product to your cart even if you don't really need it? Effective marketing. We recommend products to our friends. We are natural salespersons. Might as well use that skill to start a business and help us grow our money. In Robert Kiyosaki's book Rich Dad, Poor Dad, his rich dad taught him about selling and business while he was young. Imagine if he waited for school to teach him what he knows now.8. The power of the law of attraction or having the right mindsetWhy don't they teach us the importance of having the right attitude? The winning mentality? Or that we have the power to make things happen? We see it in movies and in other people we know. We read it in self-help books. Some of the people we met are generous enough to share this with us.Why not start this in school?9. Self-defenseSelf-defense should be mandated to be taught in schools. It's vital for survival. Not every parent has the time and resources to bring their kids to a martial arts class.Since we're already going to school every day, we might as well teach ourselves how to deal with a possible assault. ROTC was a requirement when I was in school. So what did we get out of it, really? Here are 27 basic self-defense tricks for women.10. The importance of marriage. I used to think that marriage was only a contract between two people. A piece of paper you sign for legal purposes.Maybe that's why people jump into it and walk out just as quickly.Marriage is a covenant. After the beautiful wedding ceremony is the actual relationship test, and it's not always easy. The enemy doesn't need to destroy a nation. He just needs to target the family, the basic unit of our society. And it's easy to destroy a family when the husband and wife are at war.Final thoughts Education should give us a solid foundation before going into the world. But how many of those lessons taught in the classroom can we use daily?I've not looked for the value of X since I graduated. If life is a battle, we must be equipped with the right weapon.Sometimes when I do "adult" things that are pretty challenging, like filing my taxes or struggling with stress, I can't help but wish they taught us how to properly handle these things in school. Instead of wasting our time memorizing formulas we'll never use or terminologies we forget the moment we step out of school, why not learn things that are more life- and sanity-saving.What are the things you wish they had taught us in school?
