Can the Right Mattress Help Your Lower Back Discomfort?

Your sleeping position and the bed you rest on significantly affect your condition.

Repairing your back starts with choosing the right mattress.

If it's unsupportive, gravity may trigger painful effects on your spine.

You need firm support to sustain and correct your spine's bending and relieve pressure points, especially on your shoulders and hips, and a good mattress can provide that.

Lower back pains vary from person to person, so there is no one single type of bed that can be recommended for everyone.

But there are a few simple guidelines anyone can follow.

The right mattress for back pain

1. Look for an innerspring or memory foam mattress

Lower back discomfort causes various problems, the most common of which is insomnia

It turns into a vicious cycle: lack of sleep will worsen the pain.

There are things you can do to help, for instance, gentle exercise, massage therapy, and the right sleep supplement can help reduce pain and improve sleep quality to alleviate this issue.

In addition, a medium firm, top-rate innerspring or memory foam mattress can help lower your back pain.

Most specialists consider memory foam the best material for a mattress, especially for people suffering from back pains like scoliosis.

They provide good support and can last a long time. They also keep the spine aligned but are soft enough to provide comfort.

2. Test before buying

When shopping for the highest quality bed for back discomfort, try several products to find the right one. Then, test them for 10 – 15 minutes in your favorite sleeping position and see how they feel.

One essential feature you should look for in a mattress is the proper distribution of body weight.

It will ensure that your spine remains straight during the night.

Memory foam products are the preferred ones. The foam follows your body's shape, giving full support.

3. The pillow trick

Once you've chosen the perfect mattress, try these tricks to improve your sleep even more:

  • if you love sleeping on your side, put a pillow between your legs
  • if you enjoy sleeping on your stomach, place the pillow under your abdomen
  • if you prefer sleeping on your back, put the cushion under your knees.

Guidelines in Choosing the Right Mattress

One last advice: ask your doctor's opinion before purchasing a new mattress if you have a medical diagnosis.

They would know which mattress to recommend to help your lower back discomfort.
