Modern SEO: Optimize for Today's Readers & AI

The way people find and consume content has changed.

To ensure your article thrives, we want you to write with modern SEO in mind. This means moving beyond just keywords and walls of text.

If you're using AI to help you craft your content, always include in your prompt to "write with AEO in mind."

1. AIO (AI Optimization): Semantic Structure

AI models and search engines prefer well-structured content. Proper formatting helps them understand the hierarchy and context of your article, making it more likely to be recommended.

  • Use Clear Headings: Structure your article with a clear title (H1), main section headings (H2), and subheadings (H3).
  • Keep Paragraphs Short: Aim for 1–3 sentences per paragraph to improve readability on all devices.
  • Use Lists: Employ bulleted or numbered lists to break up text and make information easy to digest.

2. AEO (Answer Engine Optimization): Writing with User Intent

Think of your article as an answer to a question your reader is asking.

  • Address a Need: What problem does your article solve? What question does it answer? Your title and introduction should make this clear from the start.
  • Be the Expert: Your content should be the most helpful, comprehensive answer available for that topic.
  • Dedicated FAQ: Include a section for FAQs related to your topic. Use tools like AlsoAsked.

3. Voice Search Optimization

With the rise of voice assistants, people are searching by speaking.

  • Write Conversationally: Use natural language and phrases people would actually say.
    • Write "How can I practice mindfulness at work?" instead of "work mindfulness."
    • Choose simple words that people use when talking to AI or Siri. For example, "how to build a DIY wine cellar" instead of "comprehensive guide to building wine cellar"
  • Use Long-Tail Keywords: Incorporate longer, more specific phrases that mirror spoken queries.

4. GEO (Geographic Optimization)

The ultimate goal in the age of AI search is to become a trusted source that generative engines cite in their answers. Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the strategy for achieving this. It's about signaling to AI that your content is credible, accurate, and provides exceptional value.

  • Back Up Claims: Integrate data, statistics, and references to reputable studies or expert opinions to support your points. AI models value factual accuracy and credible sources.
  • Include Expert Voices: Add relevant quotes from industry experts or authoritative figures. This enhances the trustworthiness of your content in the eyes of an AI.
  • Build Authority (E-E-A-T): Demonstrate your Expertise, Experience, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness on the topic. Write from a place of deep knowledge and personal experience.
  • Focus on Factual Richness: Even small additions of verifiable facts or data can significantly improve your content's performance in generative engines without requiring a full rewrite.
