A Prayer for When Life Feels Too Rushed

Some days, prayer does not need many words. It just needs a moment of stillness and a willingness to sit in it.

This short reflection is an invitation to slow down, breathe, and rest in God's presence, even if only for a few minutes.

How to Be Still

Find a place where you can sit comfortably, with your back straight and your feet resting on the floor.

Close your eyes if that feels right.

Take a slow breath in through your nose.

And let it go.

Notice how much of today you have spent rushing. Rushing to answer, to fix, to finish. Your mind may still be running through the list of everything left to do.

For just a moment, set the list down.

Imagine yourself sitting in a small, quiet chapel. The light coming through the window is soft. There is no one else here but you and the One who has been waiting for you all day.

Picture Jesus sitting beside you.

He does not ask you to explain yourself. He does not ask you to have the right words ready. He simply sits with you, the way He sat with His friends by the shore, in the ordinary hours between miracles.

Let yourself rest here for a moment.

If your mind wanders back to your to-do list, gently notice it, and return here, to this quiet room, to His presence beside you.

You don't have to solve anything right now. You only have to be here.

Prayer for Stillness

Lord, thank You for waiting for me.

I spend so much of my day rushing toward things I think will finally make me feel at peace, and I forget that You have been offering me peace all along.

Teach me to trust that I do not have to earn a moment of Your presence.

Forgive me for treating stillness like an inconvenience. Help me believe that You are not waiting for me to get everything right before You draw near.

You are simply here, patient and unhurried, even when I am not.

Help me carry this quiet with me when I open my eyes and step back into the noise of my day. Let it soften the way I speak, the way I listen, the way I move through the hours ahead.

And when I inevitably rush ahead of You again, gently bring me back to this moment, back to this stillness, back to You.

Amen.

Write your prayer petition in the comment, and I'll include you in my prayers.

Wait! I've got more stories for you...
