I'm Taking Charge

5:33 PM

taking charge
We are not creatures of circumstance;
we are creators of circumstance.
-Benjamin Disraeli

I'm taking charge.

I have allowed circumstances to take charge of my life for a long time.
I have let myself get away with excuses and blaming.
I have let myself suffer from other people's wrong decisions and shortcomings.

Not anymore.

I have decided that I have enough.

No more excuses.

I'm not taking any bullshit anymore.

I will not let obstacles intimidate and discourage me from getting the life I have always wanted.

I will use them as my stepping stones instead.

I will not wallow in self-pity. It's normal to get hurt, to grieve for a while, to rest. But, quitting is not an option.

Everybody gets hurt. Everyone has had their fair share of betrayal, abuse, heartaches and failures. Those are all parts of growing and living.

But all those are temporary. They are not the end of my story. I refuse to accept them as the end of my story. That's why I'm taking charge.

I will not let lack of knowledge or experience about certain things kill my dreams.

No more blaming.

Yes, some people in my life should have treated me better, should have known better than use and abuse my kindness and generosity.

They should not have dragged me into their mess. But what good does it do to keep on pointing fingers?

If I would really analyze it, I have contributed to the situation no matter how small. I have cooperated. If I didn't, things would have been different.

I have let myself get pushed around by life. It's time to push back.

I refuse to get stuck.

I'm taking charge.

  2. Life gets even better when we take charge, when we exercise control over the things that we can, and just let go of those we can't. Yeah, push the world around!

  9. Hi, SuperLux! Thanks for the SDMM tweet, dear friend. In seminars I learned (and later taught) the following adage about dealing with the circumstances of life. I find it inspiring.

"It's not what happens to you but what you do about it that makes all the difference."

If you have been kind and generous to people and they have taken advantage of you, betrayed you and dragged you into their mess, then you need to distance yourself from them. If that is not possible then you need to stop cooperating with (enabling) them. Don't give them the power to affect your mood and keep you stuck. Take back the power. Seize control of your life. Grab the rudder of your ship and steer it clear of the reef. You be the driver. Take the wheel of the bus and drive it out of the ditch and onto the open road. You get to decide the type of thoughts that run through your mind. If they are unresourceful thoughts you may replace them with empowering ones. (The word "may" is substituted for "can" in seminar teaching. It is used as an embedded command designed to reach the subconscious and give it permission to change behaviors.) You may find that it is easy to control your thoughts. It's like turning a light switch on and off. With a little practice you will be able to do it at will. Happy motoring!

  10. Yay!!! Luxy is back people!...I have missed you mami...You know, I wondered what was keeping you away. I am happy you are pushing back mami. We gotta be strong. We can't let life push us to the left and right, we need to push back against the wind. Mami, keep fighting! The troubles of this world was here before we were born. Let's not let it get to us. **big teddy hug** muah!

  12. That is exactly where I was on Christmas day in 2014... I made a concious choice to change it and the direction my life was taking.

I totally agree the people that have hurt us and used us... could not have done that without our permission... I was full of anger over it... I had to let it go. It's not easy, I fail from time to time, I'm human... but I like the path I'm on now, so I stay close to it... I want joy and this path can get me there... Good luck on your path too... ♡

  13. You sure are on the right path. Totally agreed that we decide what we want and our future.

  15. The right way to be indeed. Plus why waste time blaming the people that used and abused and stuff, they sure as hell aren't wasting time on us, so don't give them the satisfaction and live your life.

  16. Good for you! Now decide on your dream and write it down. Look at it every day, and it will become a part of your life.

  18. SuperLux – Great post. May I reply with some old sayings, I’m paraphrasing: 1. In life, it’s not the destination that matters, rather it is the journey. You are clearly moving in the right direction. And 2. The difference between stumbling blocks and stepping stones is how you use them. John

  24. Hi SuperLux! What thoughtful posts you have published in the past week! I love the Benjamin Disraeli quote. Good for you for choosing to take charge! It's not easy, but it's worth the struggle. You go!

I've been knocked down by life a number of times, and I found I could stay flattened or get up and fight my way back. When my first marriage came apart, I thought anything good in my life was over forever ~ at the ripe old age of thirty. What a joke! Wonderful things were waiting for me around the next corner. After about five months of staggering around shell-shocked, I woke up to all the possibilities life held, and started moving forward one step at a time. My mantra became, "Next step, next step." Literally at times. I kept telling myself I had two choices. I could lay down and die or I could fight back. I came through much stronger and with a clear idea of who I was and what I wanted. Hang tough! It's not easy, but taking charge has many rewards.
