  7. We went to South Dakota in the fall of 2019 and had a great time! We saw Mt. Rushmore, panned for gold, hiked and explored Custer state park, saw the Badlands, and enjoyed so much more. Sadly, both Wind and Jewel caves were closed when we were there...something about the spread of white-nose syndrome. But they had been on my list of "must see" places. One of our favorites that isn't listed was Mammoth Dig Site-- my boys LOVED that and wished we had lived closer so they could have had tried their hand at digging.

  8. Hi, Lux!

Thanks for showing us points of interest on a vacation trip to South Dakota, dear friend! I've never visited the state, but have dreamed of seeing Mount Rushmore ever since the attraction was featured in Alfred Hitchcock's North By Northwest, a movie I went to see in the theater upon its release in 1959. I would love to view the faces of the presidents and explore Wind Cave and Jewel Cave. Ten years ago, Mrs. Shady and I had fun on a visit to Carlsbad Caverns National Park in southern New Mexico. I couldn't get over how the temperature plummeted from 100+ degrees at the surface to around 66 down in the cavern.

Thanks again for providing tips and ideas for a planned vacation in South Dakota, dear friend Lux. I'll be returning this Sunday to celebrate 17 years of blogging and hope you can stop by to see me. Until then, take care and enjoy the rest of your week!
