Lux Thinking Aloud

Dogs Are Family, Not Food

12:15 AM

Dogs will lay down their lives for a friend.

If you have the power to help change the world and save lives, wouldn't you?
It's just a click away (links below).

Dogs are family, not food.

Dogs are the best things to ever happen to mankind.

The loyalty of dogs is incomparable. If you've never had a pet dog (but why?!) you're missing so much.

No other creature can ever love a human so purely, so unconditionally and so faithfully the way a dog does.

One of our dogs one time literally threw himself in front of other dogs and fought bravely, leaving him a scar just to be sure I pass without getting harmed or bitten. And that's only one incident that these furry friends demonstrated their loyalty.

I grew up with dogs around me. I can't imagine life without dogs.

I can't imagine people stealing them from their families, cram them in a cage too small for them, hurt them in ways unimaginable, killing them brutally, i.e. skinning and burning them alive to eat their meat!

It's atrocious. It's horrible. If you think, I'm exaggerating, Google Yulin Festival. That's EXACTLY what they do!

I can't even bring myself to look at the pictures of these poor dogs. I wanted to post them here just to show you how serious the situation is but I can't. It's heartbreaking.

I don't and will never understand the "fun" and satisfaction people get that they even made an annual festival out of this monstrosity.

I ask you dear reader to please participate and help stop this festivity held on June 21-23. It's no festival! It's barbarism.

If you could please spread the word on your social media, please use these hashtags:

  1. I can't imagine. We have a precious, but old, dog named Little Bit. She's family and we treat her as such. I can't imagine this.

    Have a terrific day. ☺

  5. I support your attitude, sister, but why just dogs? Eating dogs is equally disturbing to eating chicken, pigs or cows.... All animals should be kept out of people's plates.... I'm a vegetarian you know :)

  6. I know about the Yulin 'Festival', and am disgusted. One might also want to Google "Soi Dog Foundation"; it's an organization based in Thailand that is working to stop the dog meat trade in Southeast Asia. They do good and effective work, and evena small donation makes a difference.

My wife and I run a sanctuary for abused and abandoned dogs. We have 24.

  14. We enjoy our dogs and they are like family. We would NEVER eat them, although I did know that some people do. Our missionary/evangelist friend who travels to many countries, one told me about a feast she went to. One of the children asked her if she liked (duck) at least that is what she heard. She remarked, "Yes, I love duck." The child replied, "No oh no, I asked you if you like dog, because this is what you are eating. Our friend did not embarrass her hosts, but her meal was ruined. This must have been in Indonesia as that is one of the Asian countries she often visits. I am so glad your dogs are family too. The one who gave his protection for you was amazing. Thanks for sharing at Tell me a Story.

  25. Agh! I'd heard stories about people eating dogs in some areas of the world but I was hoping it never happened. This is awful! Our dog is very, very spoiled!

  29. Oh no, how could they eat dogs?!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yes, they are the most loyal animals that exist on Earth!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Omg that's disgusting! I had no idea of this festival, it's a pity how stupid humans can be. I agree that dogs are men's best friends. I have never had a dog because my apartment is small and I would prefer to have a dog in my backyard one day.

    ReplyDelete
  32. If I am honest I have never had a pet, or even a pet dog. Mostly because I doubt my family is the kind that would be able to keep up with having another creature in and around the house, let alone have time to look after it. I wouldn't mind trying to have one in the future though. I feel like this petition is a good idea, and I am supportive of it.

  33. I am just sick about this. What is wrong with people? Evil. Torturing precious animals and eating them? Evil.

Off to sign the petitions. Thank you for bringing this to all of our attention, Lux.

  36. Hi Lux, When I read your title on this post I thought I must be misreading or something ... Dogs for food? No way, I've never heard of it. You are so right ... this is an atrocity! Another example of evil in our world. Thank you for telling us about this. I'm heading to the petitions!

  41. I love your quote in the beginning. Can I post it on Twitter and link it to your blog? My dogs are my very best friends so I hated when I found out about this festival via social media and what they do to the dogs.

  42. It's very deplorable to know that human cruelty has not spared these adorable and faithful creatures. I've signed this petition the first time I saw this on your tweets.

I would love to take care of one. Let's hope and pray for the ending of this barbarism.
